Priego de Córdoba has been selected as a finalist in the 2026 Andalucía Tourism Awards, within Modality 5, "Destino Turístico Interior de Excelencia", as announced by the Secretaría General para el Turismo in its resolution with the three best candidates in each category. The municipality shares this nomination with the Ayuntamiento de Macael and the Geoparque de Granada. The resolution, signed by the acting deputy minister of the Secretaría General para el Turismo, Yolanda de Aguilar Rosell, results from the decision of the Judging Panel agreed on June 1, 2026. According to the text, particular value is placed on the municipality's integration into the Parque Natural de la Sierra Subbética, its urban fabric with stately streets and corners, the presence of water as a characteristic element, its Baroque heritage and the wealth of its archaeological sites from different periods.

Statements from the mayor

The mayor of Priego de Córdoba, Juan Ramón Valdivia, at the head of the tourism department since 2011, has described the nomination as "the endorsement of sustained work that we have been carrying out meticulously from the Delegación de Turismo, as well as from the other areas that contribute a great deal to our tourism image". The mayor has also attributed the recognition to the efforts of business owners, shopkeepers, brotherhoods and local institutions, as well as to the residents themselves. Valdivia has also noted that the nomination coincides with several projects underway in the municipality, including a new Oficina de Turismo, the Museo del Olivar Picudo, the reopening of the Castillo, the completion of the car parks in the lower Adarve, the enhancement of the Casa del Castillo, audio guides in the churches and a new tourism website. The identity of the winners in each modality will remain secret until the Andalucía Tourism Awards ceremony, which will be held on Thursday, September 24 in Huelva.
