Mushrooms are once again the stars in Priego de Córdoba. The sixteenth edition of Priego Micológico will be held from November 19 to December 13 with routes, guided visits, screenings and gastronomic offerings, as announced by the town's Ayuntamiento. The Jardín Micológico La Trufa will be one of the main venues. It can be visited during its usual hours, from 10:00 to 14:00, and will open exceptionally during the December long weekend: on the 5th and 6th, from 16:00 to 18:00, and on Monday the 7th during its normal hours. It remains closed on Mondays except for that opening. Those who come can tour the botanical garden and see the painting exhibition «Flora, Fauna y Paisajes desde el Jardín Micológico», by the Asociación de Pintores Adolfo Lozano Sidro de Priego. There will also be guided visits and the screening of two documentaries on the world of fungi.

Two field trips and menus with mushrooms

The mushroom routes are scheduled for November 29 and December 6. Participants will learn to identify different mushroom species and the basic principles of sustainable foraging. Gastronomy will play a prominent role with the route «De setas por Priego», in which 14 hospitality establishments in the municipality take part with dishes in which mushrooms are the stars. Added to this is a mushroom menu prepared by students of the Cocina y Restauración training cycles at IES Carmen Pantión. Environmental education will involve around a hundred schoolchildren from the Virgen de la Cabeza and Luque Onieva schools, who will make guided visits to the Jardín Micológico. Most of the activities will be free, except the gastronomic ones. Information and registration can be found through the QR code included in the information leaflets and on the Turismo de Priego website. At the presentation, held at the Jardín Micológico La Trufa, participants included the territorial delegate for Environment in Córdoba, Daniel García-Ibarrola; the director-conservator of the Parque Natural Sierras Subbéticas, Rocío Parra, and the mayor of Priego de Córdoba, Juan Ramón Valdivia. The mayor recalled that the event was created 16 years ago to make the garden known during the mushroom season.
