According to the note sent by the Cabildo, the recognition distinguishes the entity as responsible, together with the team in charge of the management, security, conservation and restoration of the monument. The award was agreed by the Pleno de Consejeros of the Andalusian organism in an extraordinary and urgent session held on 22 de julio.
The category «Defensa del Patrimonio Andaluz» values, according to the Cabildo, the response given after the fire: emergency management, damage assessment, protection of the building, and the planning and execution of the recovery works.
The deán presidente of the Cabildo Catedral, Joaquín Alberto Nieva, has thanked the distinction and has noted that «it belongs to all the people who took part in the response to the fire and who, since that very night, have worked with professionalism, dedication and responsibility to protect the Mezquita-Catedral and recover the affected areas».
Nieva has explained that the award arrives «at a very special moment», coinciding with the completion of one year since the fire, and has indicated that 80% of the recovery works have already been carried out, with 100% of them underway.
First edition of the awards
The distinction is part of the first edition of the Reconocimientos y Distinciones «Arquitectos de Andalucía», promoted by the Consejo Andaluz de Colegios Oficiales de Arquitectos to recognize outstanding people, institutions and projects in the field of architecture and urbanism.
The award ceremony is scheduled for jueves 10 de septiembre in Huelva, as part of the commemorative gala for the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Consejo Andaluz de Colegios Oficiales de Arquitectos.
