The nativity scenes of Lucena already have a date to sign up for the Christmas contest. The Department of Festivals, Customs and Traditions has opened the registration period for the 2026 Popular Nativity Scene Contest, which repeats the collaboration of the Eliossana Open Shopping Centre (CCA) and maintains the categories introduced in the previous edition. The contest accepts entries from individuals, associations, shops, institutions and schools, divided into two categories: private nativity scenes and nativity scenes from organisations and public spaces. The displays must include at least three scenes from the Christmas story: the Annunciation to the Shepherds, the Nativity and the arrival of the Magi.

Popular vote and jury in equal parts

The choice of winners combines the assessment of a jury with public participation. Each person may cast a single vote per nativity scene through the QR code placed next to each display. The popular vote accounts for 50 % of the final score and the other 50 % corresponds to the jury, which will assess originality, artistic creativity, setting, craftsmanship and the use of natural, ecological or recycled materials. In each of the two categories, three prizes of 500, 300 and 150 euros are awarded. The rules also include a Nativity Scene Route made up of at least four or five displays, including the winners, which will be open to public visits. Applications can be submitted until November 13, in person at the Citizen Information and Assistance Service (SIAC) or through the municipal electronic office at the Lucena City Council website, where the information and documentation for the contest are available.
