Music fills Lucena's calendar throughout November. The Town Council's Department of Culture has organised a programme that starts on Friday, November 6 and closes on Saturday, November 28, with seven events ranging from piano to flamenco, Cádiz carnival, zarzuela and Christmas carols. The agenda takes as its reference Saint Cecilia, patron saint of music, and International Flamenco Day, which is commemorated on November 16.
The first performance will be 'Melodías para la Eternidad', by Aras Musical, within the plectrum and plucked-string cycle 'Lucena en Cuerda y Alma' promoted by the Department of Tourism. It will be at the parish church of Santiago at 20:00.
Two piano concerts and admission by invitation
The cycle 'La Camarilla del Juernes' brings two piano recitals. Rodrigo López will play on Sunday, November 8 at 19:00 at the Auditorio Municipal, and the Argentine pianist Laureano Bruno will perform on Thursday, November 19, at the same time, at the Casa de los Mora. Both require a free invitation.
Flamenco will have two protagonists. On November 16 a promotional video featuring Lucena flamenco artists, directed by the dancer Araceli Hidalgo, will be shared on social media. And on Friday, November 20, the Auditorio Municipal hosts at 20:30 'Mano a Mano Flamenco', with the singers Ezequiel Benítez, from Jerez de la Frontera, and David Palomar, from Cádiz, presented by Rafael Ramírez Ponferrada. Admission costs 5 euros.
Carnival, zarzuela and Christmas carols to close
On Saturday, November 21, the Trío del Molina, a five-member group linked to the Cádiz carnival repertoire, performs at the Palacio Erisana. Admission costs 3 euros.
The following day, Sunday 22, the Sociedad Didáctico Musical Banda de Música de Lucena offers a zarzuela concert at 12:30 at the Palacio Erisana, with free admission until full capacity is reached. Its president, Manuel Hurtado, explains that the repertoire is a tribute to the genre with popular pieces and seeks to bring it closer to new generations.
The closing comes on Saturday, November 28 with 'Ecos de Adviento', by the Coral Lucentina, at 19:30 at the Parroquia del Carmen, with free admission until full capacity is reached. Its director, Oleg Antoniak, has announced that Christmas carols of different styles and origins will be recovered, from 'Adeste Fideles' and 'Noche de Paz' to popular Andalusian compositions, with works by Antonio Villa and arrangements by Luis Bedmar. The recital will include the premiere of two Christmas carols composed by Antoniak, 'Navidad en Lucena' and 'Esta Navidad'.
Invitations and tickets for the concerts that require them can be obtained at the Department of Culture, at the Biblioteca Pública Municipal, or at the Cultura Lucena ticket website.
The councillor for Culture, Francisco Barbancho, has presented the programme, which features local artists and cultural organisations from the city.
