Walking through holm oak and cork oak dehesas, crossing streams and watching a golden eagle fly. That is what the III Encuentro de Senderistas de Hornachuelos proposes for Sunday, November 8, organized by the town council of the municipality. The three routes set off at the same time, at 9:30, from the fairground, and cost seven euros per person. Registration includes refreshments during the walk, a mountain stew, a drink and a commemorative wristband for this third edition. The day does not end with the hike: the shared meal is part of the plan.

Three distances to choose from

The short route is about six kilometres and is the easiest. It combines a section of the Sendero del Águila with the Las Herrerías trail, in a circular route of low difficulty that passes through dehesas, old lime kilns and estates such as San Bernardo and Santa Cruz, and ends at the Fuente del Valle. The intermediate one is 16 kilometres, also circular, and follows the area around the Sendero de Los Ángeles. Its attraction is that it crosses a private estate, an unusual passage for hikers. The path runs parallel to the Bembézar river and reaches the Seminario de Nuestra Señora de Los Ángeles, built on an old monastery founded in 1490 and with a chapel whose oldest construction dates from 1763. The most demanding is 26 kilometres, on a circular layout, linking sections of the Sendero del Águila, Guadalora and Las Herrerías trails. Those who choose it will cross the cork oak dehesa of the Santa Cruz estate, olive groves and fruit trees, with chances to see birds of prey and even otters.

What you have to do to sign up
