Baena expands its workshops for older people with registration open at the centres themselves

The Delegación de Servicios Sociales de Baena keeps registration open for its programme of physical activity, memory, crafts and other activities for older people, held in four venues in the municipality. Applications are taken on the days the activity takes place at each centre.

Older people in Baena can sign up for the new programme of activities from the Delegación de Servicios Sociales, focused on physical exercise, memory stimulation, crafts and other recreational and educational activities. Registration remains open and is taken on the days the activity takes place at each centre, according to the Ayuntamiento de Baena.

Where and when they are held

The programme is spread across different venues in the municipality to bring the activities closer to those taking part.

Centro Social de San Pedro: physical activity on Tuesdays from 9.00; memory workshops on Wednesdays at 9.00 and crafts at 11.30.
Local de la Asociación de Vecinos de la Almedina: memory on Mondays at 10.00, crafts at 11.30 and physical activity on Tuesdays from 11.30.
Centro Municipal de Mayores de Baena: physical activity on Wednesdays and Fridays at 9.00, 11.00 and 12.30, and crafts on Thursdays at 9.00.
Centro Municipal de Mayores de Albendín: physical activity on Mondays and Thursdays at 10.00 and crafts on Tuesdays at 9.00 and 11.30.

Afternoon sessions

In the afternoon, on Mondays there is a reading and spelling class from 17.00 to 19.00; on Tuesdays, a crafts workshop in the same slot; on Wednesdays, a knitting workshop, and on Thursdays, a dressmaking workshop, also from 17.00 to 19.00. The councillor for Servicios Sociales, Francisco Vizcaíno Barea, explained that applications are being taken this week to organise the groups. He said the aim is to make it easier for as many residents as possible to take part, extending sessions and times when demand requires it. Although some activities already have full groups, registration remains open to increase the number of groups as new applications arrive and to adapt the times to users' needs.

Chess tournament

Vizcaíno also recalled the holding of the V Torneo de Ajedrez del Centro Municipal de Mayores de Baena, scheduled for Saturday, October 24 from 10.00 to 13.00. The competition will be played in rapid format, with games of eight minutes plus three seconds increment per move, and the Ayuntamiento presents it as an opportunity to encourage participation, bring enthusiasts together and exercise cognitive skills.

How to register

Registration can be done on the days the activity takes place at each of the centres where it is held.
