The Semana Santa of Doña Mencía was present at the II Cofrade Fair of Spain and Ibero-America, which was held at the Centro de Exposiciones, Ferias y Convenciones de Córdoba. Members of the Cuadrilla de Pregoneros de Jesús Nazareno and of the Cofradía de Evangelistas y Pregoneros travelled there, together with the chronicler Antonio Cantero, to make known the distinctive features of the Semana Santa of Doña Mencía.

Pregones and biblical figures

The aim of the participation was to highlight and make known the representations of the passion and the singing of the pregones that are experienced every Semana Santa in the town. Cantero explained the distinctive character of the parish of Doña Mencía due to the former presence of the Dominicans and explained the historical origin of the pregones and the biblical figures. Several of those pregones were sung before the figures of Gestas and Dimas. «People were amazed because they had never seen that in their lives,» said Cantero, who urged those present to look to history and not renounce their own roots.

Shoes with brotherhood crests

The fair also featured the Doña Mencía artisan shoemaker Antonio Muñoz, with his shoes customised with brotherhood crests.

Who was there

The Doña Mencía representation was made up of members of the Cuadrilla de Pregoneros de Jesús Nazareno and of the Cofradía de Evangelistas y Pregoneros, together with the chronicler Antonio Cantero and the artisan Antonio Muñoz.
