CUDAO brings the genetic diversity of the olive grove to Agropriego 2026
The Universidad de Córdoba has shown at the fair a sample of the collection of olive tree varieties it studies and conserves, one of the most important in the world in this field.

The Centro Universitario para el Desarrollo del Aceite de Oliva en la provincia de Córdoba (CUDAO) has taken part in the 45th edition of Agropriego with an outreach activity centred on the so-called Universo de Variedades, aimed at making the public aware of the genetic diversity existing in the olive grove.
Through an exhibition space at the fairground, CUDAO showed visitors part of the varietal wealth conserved and studied by the Universidad de Córdoba, a collection which, according to the university itself, is among the most important in the world in this field. The proposal made it possible to learn about olive tree varieties from different territories and their role in the conservation of biodiversity, scientific research and the future of the olive oil sector.
During the fair, numerous people approached the stand to learn about the characteristics that differentiate one variety from another. According to the university, research in this field helps identify plant material with potential to address challenges such as climate change, the sustainability of cultivation systems or the improvement of olive oil quality.
The director of CUDAO, María Isabel Trujillo, pointed out that Agropriego "represents a wonderful opportunity to show society the value of the olive grove's genetic heritage and the work carried out by the Universidad de Córdoba for its conservation, study and enhancement," and added that varietal diversity is "a key tool for facing the present and future challenges of olive growing."
Agropriego brings together professionals, companies, farmers and institutions from the agricultural sector every year.
