The Diputación de Córdoba funds 14 research scholarships at the IMIBIC
The provincial institution has allocated around 500,000 euros to a scholarship programme that brings 14 young researchers into biomedical research groups at the IMIBIC during 2026.

The Diputación de Córdoba has been supporting the work of the Instituto Maimónides de Investigación Biomédica de Córdoba (IMIBIC) since 2025. According to the statement issued by the provincial institution, this year the support focuses on young talent: 14 researchers, holding qualifications in Formación Profesional, degree or master's level, along with scholarship undergraduate students, are joining various biomedical research groups at the institute during 2026.
The president of the Diputación, Salvador Fuentes, states that the institution has allocated around 500,000 euros to the IMIBIC. As he explains, the aim is "to help those young people who have concerns, who need to keep expanding their studies, their research, their innovation, so that they can decide, in the best way possible, to keep pursuing the profession of research in their homeland."
Among the beneficiaries is Natalia Urieta, a 22-year-old Psychology graduate specialising in child Neuropsychology, whose scholarship involves her being hired for six months in the IMIBIC's Applied Psychology group. During that period she works on developing new diagnostic tests to detect cognitive decline at an earlier stage.
Another scholarship holder, Hugo Huertas, a Biology graduate and student of the Master's in Translational Biomedical Research at the Universidad de Córdoba (UCO), has joined the OncObesidad y Metabolismo group. His work focuses on finding new ways to diagnose prostate cancer early and on offering doctors new tools to treat patients.
Along with Urieta and Huertas, the statement mentions seven other young Cordoban researchers benefiting from these scholarships: Valentina, Alba, Ariadna, Álvaro, Javier, Manuel Jesús and Miguel.
The IMIBIC's scientific director, Pablo Pérez, states that the institute currently has more than 500 active clinical trials, which, he says, allows Cordoban patients to benefit from treatments that will not reach the general population until ten years later.

The ID Talent scholarship programme remains open. The IMIBIC is currently looking for two new professionals, with applications open until 15 September via the email idtalent@imibic.org.
