Last time: April 23 to 26, 2026.
What it is
The Montilla-Moriles Wine Tasting Fair is the annual showcase for the wines of the Cordoba province's designation of origin. Cordobans began holding it in 1983 under the name Cata del Vino y Aceites (Wine and Oil Tasting), and it has since become a fixed spring event on the eve of May. In 2026 it held its fortieth edition.
It is promoted by the Regulatory Council of the Montilla-Moriles Protected Designations of Origin, which considers it its main promotional event of the year. Montilla-Moriles is one of Spain's oldest designations: it was recognised in 1932 and its regulations were published in 1945. Its signature grape is Pedro Ximénez, which covers the vast majority of the vineyards.
In an open-air venue, wineries set up their stands and visitors can taste finos, amontillados, olorosos, sweet Pedro Ximénez wines or young whites, paired with Cordoban dishes served by local restaurants, with music in the background. Guided tastings run by the wineries are also scheduled.
Where
On Avenida del Alcázar, next to the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, where an enclosure is set up with entrances and exits on both sides of the avenue.
Customs and traditions
The usual plan is to go with friends, get a glass and go round the winery stands trying different types of wine, with portions of Cordoban food. Popular music (rumbas, sevillanas, fandangos) accompanies the visit. Those who want to learn more sign up for one of the guided tastings.
