What it is

The Royal Fair (Feria Real) is Baena's main fair, in the province of Córdoba. It begins on the Wednesday before the first weekend of October and has the feel of Andalusian fairs: horses, flamenco dresses, marquees and rides.

In recent years the Town Council has set out to renew it. The daytime fair has been brought back, with afternoon music from midday at the Caseta Municipal, and young people have been given more room with a youth marquee (Caseta Joven) that has its own programme.

The big week is preceded by several events: the Salmorejo Flamenco, a night of flamenco singing, dancing and guitar that reached its 49th edition in 2026; a fair lunch for older residents; and the switching-on of the special fair lights.

Where

The fairground stretches across the area of Ramón Santaella park and El Juncal. According to the official 2026 map, the marquees are grouped next to the park and along Avenida de Cervantes, and the rides at the other end, around Avenida de San Carlos de Chile, linked by Calle Salvador Muñoz with stalls and booths.

The Town Council's two stages are the Caseta Municipal, with a programme for all ages, and the Caseta Joven, for young people. The giants and big-heads parades go through the town's streets to the Caseta Municipal.

Customs and traditions

By day, the Caseta Municipal opens at midday with background music and live acts in the afternoon; at night the bands and concerts carry on, and the Caseta Joven has its own artists and DJs.

Traditional events include the parade of giants and big-heads with a brass band, the children's parades around the fairground and the sevillanas contests, one local and one professional at regional level. Horses and flamenco dresses are part of the fair's atmosphere.

Before the fair, the Salmorejo Flamenco brings together flamenco singers, dancers and guitarists, and the fair lunch for older residents opens the week.
