The baroque organ of the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción y Ángeles is once again the star of Cabra's musical autumn. The VIII Organ Cycle, organised by Cabra Órgano Festival, programmes three concerts and an educational session for schoolchildren between October 23 and November 21. All activities take place in the parish church itself.

Three concerts and a date with schoolchildren

The opening concert will be on Friday, October 23 at 20.30 hours, given by the Dúo «El Ayrecillo», with Ramón Marquès on sackbut and Jaime González-Sierra on organ. On Saturday, October 31, also at 20.30 hours, the Dúo «Tubox», made up of Antonio Cánovas on saxophone and Rubén Díez on organ, will perform as part of the cycle «Órgano en Andalucía: Música y Patrimonio» of the Agencia Andaluza de Instituciones Culturales. The educational side comes on Friday, November 13, in a morning session, with an educational concert for students from schools dedicated to Francisco Correa de Arauxo, on the fourth centenary of the publication of his «Facultad Orgánica». The cycle will close on Saturday, November 21 at 20.30 hours with baritone and plucked-string performer Víctor Cruz and organist Sylvio Salado.

Twenty years of the restored organ

This year's edition coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the restoration of the historic organ, carried out in 2006. Built by the Furriel between 1756 and 1758, it is a testimony to Spanish baroque organ building and a unique element of Cabra's musical heritage, as the organisers highlight. The cycle is sponsored by and organised in collaboration with the Ayuntamiento de Cabra through its Delegación de Cultura, the Diputación de Córdoba, the Schola Cantorum Egabrense, the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción y Ángeles and the Junta de Andalucía, through the Consejería de Cultura y Deporte and the Agencia Andaluza de Instituciones Culturales.

How to attend

The three musical dates and the educational session take place in the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción y Ángeles. The concerts are on October 23 and 31 and November 21, all at 20.30 hours; the school activity, on November 13 in the morning.
