Carcabuey unveils the Giant Swings Route and the Subbética adds seven trails
The Mancomunidad de la Subbética has inaugurated the Giant Swings Route in Carcabuey, a 7.1-kilometre circular itinerary that is part of a project with seven new trails in the region.
Carcabuey now has the Ruta de los Columpios Gigantes, a tourist itinerary promoted by the Mancomunidad de la Subbética through the Plan de Sostenibilidad Turística en Destino, with an investment of approximately 25.000 euros.
A two-hour route
The route has a circular layout of 7,1 kilometres, an estimated duration of two hours and easy difficulty. It includes three giant swings installed at La Luca, the surroundings of the Calvario and Cerro del Moro, and the Castillo, from where different perspectives of the landscape can be seen. The itinerary combines the town centre of Carcabuey with its natural surroundings, within the Parque Natural y Geoparque Mundial de la UNESCO Sierras Subbéticas.
Seven trails in the region
This action is part of a Mancomunidad project to create seven new trails in different municipalities of the region. Along with the Carcabuey route, it includes the Navasequilla trail, in Priego de Córdoba; Sierra de Aras, in Lucena; Almedinilla a tus pies; Olivo Viejo Baldío, in Fuente-Tójar; Sierra Alta, in Rute; and Matuteros-Zurreón, in Encinas Reales.
According to the Mancomunidad, these initiatives seek to diversify the tourist offer, highlight natural and heritage resources and expand the possibilities for hiking. The project is part of the regional strategy to promote nature tourism, encourage the discovery of lesser-known spots and distribute visits among the municipalities of the Subbética.
The president of the entity, Juan Ramón Valdivia, has stated that the Carcabuey route constitutes an alternative to the intervention initially planned in the arroyo Tijeras, whose approach had to be modified. He has also announced that other trails included in the plan will be inaugurated in the coming weeks.
