Baena starts drainage works on calle Matadero and plans to begin those on Federico García Lorca on Monday
The Ayuntamiento de Baena has started drainage works on calle Matadero, with a four-month deadline, and plans to begin on Monday the redevelopment of calle Federico García Lorca, which will be carried out in two months.
Works to improve drainage and prevent flooding have already begun on calle Matadero in Baena. The intervention has an expected deadline of four months and affects the whole of that street, the final stretch of calle Demetrio de los Ríos, the stretch of avenida Cañete de las Torres between numbers 21 and 33 and the connection with calle Sargento Domingo Argudo at its junction with avenida Cañete de las Torres.
What will be done
According to the Ayuntamiento, the main network will be replaced and a combined gravity system is planned, with new manholes and gullies for collecting rainwater. The drainage connections of all affected buildings will also be renewed and work will be done on paving and road surfaces.
The mayor, María Jesús Serrano, explains that the action responds to the urban growth of about 30 years ago, which makes a greater number of larger-diameter sewers necessary, and to the fact that the single-platform works on avenida Castro del Río worsened the situation by diverting water towards the homes. The contractor is Fajosa, a company from Baena, and the investment is around 89,000 euros, funded by the Ayuntamiento under the Plan Invierte of the Diputación Provincial de Córdoba 2025.
Calle Federico García Lorca
The works on calle Federico García Lorca will also begin shortly, scheduled for next Monday and with an execution period of two months. The street shows structural damage and cracks in some homes resulting from drainage, supply networks and a deficiency in the execution of the development. The supply and drainage networks and the public lighting networks will be replaced, and a 427-square-metre stretch will be redeveloped with an investment of more than 66,000 euros, charged to the funding received from the Gobierno de España for the train of storms. The action has been processed as an emergency.
Nuisance and apologies
Serrano apologises to residents for the nuisance the works may cause and asks users of the garages and car parks for patience. The mayor says that the works "will be a nuisance, but we want the problems to be resolved for the present and for the future".
To bear in mind
The works are already under way on calle Matadero and those on Federico García Lorca will begin on Monday, October 26, according to the municipal forecast. No procedure that residents must carry out has been indicated.
