The Universidad de Córdoba (UCO) is hosting from Wednesday, September 16 until Friday, September 18 the LX Congreso Nacional de la Sociedad Española de Cerámica y Vidrio (SECV), a gathering that brings together at the Rectorado nearly two hundred researchers, professionals and representatives of companies and research centers related to ceramics, glass and advanced materials.

The congress is organized by the SECV together with the UCO and has the collaboration of the Instituto Químico para la Energía y el Medioambiente (IQUEMA). According to the note sent by the Universidad de Córdoba, the SECV presents this edition as a space to share scientific advances and research and to encourage exchange among researchers and professionals.

Scientific program

Over the four days, the program is structured into twelve specialized symposia, covering areas such as structural ceramic materials and advanced composites, functional materials for energy and electrochemical conversion, additive manufacturing, materials for environmental applications, the circular economy, and heritage and archaeometry, among others.

The program includes approximately 85 oral communications and 30 poster presentations, in addition to four plenary lectures. These are given by Erika Cedillo-Pelucco, of the Pelucco R&D Division (Mexico), on strategies against micro- and nanoplastic pollution; Ulrich B. Wiesner, of Cornell University (United States), on polymer self-assembly for ceramics and glasses; and researchers from the Instituto de Cerámica y Vidrio del CSIC, Begoña Ferrari and José F. Fernández, on additive manufacturing from colloidal feedstocks and on correlated microstructures, respectively.

Opening and participants

The opening ceremony was held on the same Wednesday, September 16, in the afternoon at the Salón de Actos of the Rectorado, with the participation of the vicerrectora of Política Científica of the UCO, Mª José Polo Gómez; the president of the SECV, Miguel J. Galindo; the director of the IQUEMA, Luis Sánchez Granados, and the president of the Comité Organizador Local, Zoilo González Granados.

The Comité de Organización Local is made up, in addition to Zoilo González Granados, of Álvaro Caballero Amores, Luis Sánchez Granados, Almudena Benítez de la Torre, Alejandro Rodríguez Pascual, Gustavo de Miguel Rojas and Francisco Romero Salguero, together with representatives of the SECV.

The IQUEMA, a research institute of the UCO, has more than 130 researchers organized into 18 groups and carries out its activity in the areas of energy and the environment, with lines of work such as materials for batteries and supercapacitors, solar energy conversion, biofuels and waste valorization.

The congress has the backing of sponsoring and collaborating entities, including VICAR, Anton Paar Spain, COLFEED4Print, IT3D Group, The American Ceramic Society, Hyperion Materials & Technologies, Milexia Ibérica, Colorobbia Spain, the Universitat Jaume I, the Instituto de Cerámica y Vidrio (ICV-CSIC), NETZSCH Group and SF Technologies (SFTec).
