The A-431 road, from Lora del Río to Córdoba, has traffic diversions as it passes through Palma del Río for two days, on Tuesday, October 20 and Wednesday, October 21, from 7.00 to 18.00 hours. The reason is the installation of the complete structure of the pedestrian and cycle bridge that will link the town centre of the municipality with the residential areas of La Estación, El Baldío and El Acebuchal, as well as with the Los Cabezos peri-urban park.

Diversion via the Guadalquivir bridges

The closure occurs at kilometre 51+105 of the A-431. While it lasts, traffic is diverted towards the centre of Palma del Río via the bridges that cross the Guadalquivir river. The operation consists of lifting the structure in a single piece with a 400-tonne crane, which has two lifting platforms at each end. The modules have been transported from the factory and welded at the roadside before lifting.

A 42.91-metre footbridge

The structure spans 42.91 metres over the A-431 and has a minimum vertical clearance over the roadway of 5.50 metres. On both sides, access ramps have been installed consisting of 14 sections of 10 metres in length and a longitudinal gradient of 8%. The ramps have horizontal landings and guardrails with 1.5-metre-high deployé-type mesh, and a minimum usable width of 2.90 metres, to comply with accessibility regulations and allow the passage of people with reduced mobility. The floor of the footbridge and the ramps is designed with concrete over a composite steel deck, and the structure has a longitudinal gradient that directs water to the road's drainage ditches.

Institutional visit

The Minister of Public Works, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, attended the operation and met with the site management, with the mayor of Palma del Río, Matilde Esteo, and with the delegate of the Junta Government in Córdoba, Adolfo Molina.
