The Geoparque Sierras Subbéticas opens a month of activities for its 20 years in the European and global networks
The Centro de Visitantes de Santa Rita, in Cabra, hosts from this Thursday, October 22, the exhibition «Una mirada a las Sierras Subbéticas», by Mateo Olaya, the first event of a programme that runs until November 15 in several municipalities of the region.
The exhibition «Una mirada a las Sierras Subbéticas», by the Environment technician of the Cabra City Council Mateo Olaya, opens this Thursday, October 22, at the Santa Rita Visitor Centre, in Cabra, the programme with which the Geoparque Parque Natural Sierras Subbéticas commemorates its 20 years since joining the European and Global Geoparks Networks.
A month of routes, workshops and hiking
The programme runs between October 22 and November 15 in different municipalities of the Sierras Subbéticas and includes exhibitions, interpretive routes, hiking, educational workshops and proposals related to nature, cultural heritage and local gastronomy.
The closing will be on November 15 in Carcabuey, with a commemorative event that will include recognitions, a round table on the history of the Geopark and activities open to the public.
A territory of 32,560 hectares and eight municipalities
The Geopark, recognised as a UNESCO Global Geopark, covers 32,560 hectares of land in eight municipalities of the province of Córdoba: Cabra, Carcabuey, Doña Mencía, Iznájar, Luque, Priego de Córdoba, Rute and Zuheros. Its limestone formations, caves, chasms and palaeontological sites make it, according to the Junta de Andalucía, a space of interest for scientific research and environmental education.
The territorial delegate for Sustainability and Environment, Daniel García-Ibarrola, attended the opening event and thanked the work of the Geopark staff and the collaboration of the eight town councils and the public. García-Ibarrola said that it is necessary to «continue along this line» in order to «bring that nature or that natural heritage that the province of Córdoba has to everyone».
To take part
The activities are spread between October 22 and November 15 in the municipalities of the Geopark. Mateo Olaya's exhibition can be visited at the Santa Rita Visitor Centre, in Cabra, and the closing event, open to the public, is held on November 15 in Carcabuey.
