The series «Cómo hemos cambiado» holds its second session on Thursday, October 22 at 19.00 at the Fundación Cajasol, in Ronda de los Tejares, 32, with free entry until full capacity. The event reviews the evolution of mental health care.
The Reina Sofía University Hospital, the Maimónides Institute for Biomedical Research of Córdoba (IMIBIC) and the Cajasol Foundation hold on Thursday, October 22 the second session of the series «How we have changed. 50 years of science, health and life», dedicated on this occasion to mental health. The meeting will be at 19.00 hours at the headquarters of the Cajasol Foundation in Córdoba, at Ronda de los Tejares, 32, and entry is free until full capacity is reached.
A journey through mental health care
The session proposes a journey through the transformation of mental health care in recent decades and a reflection on current challenges. The aim, according to the organizers, is to bring the public a vision that integrates health care, caregiving and social support, as well as to offer a space to resolve doubts and question prejudices that condition the lives of people with mental health problems.
The programme will start with the talk «Mental health before and now», by José Fernando Venceslá Martínez, clinical psychologist and coordinator of the Community Mental Health Unit, and María Luisa Rivera Hidalgo, coordinating nurse of Mental Health Care. Both will address the changes in the way these problems are understood and treated and the evolution of the role of professionals and of care in accompanying people and their families.
Afterwards, Ana Benito Duarte, psychiatrist and coordinator of the Mental Health Therapeutic Community, will speak about what is understood by mental health, how demands have changed and how health centres respond to them.
Debate with different profiles
The meeting will continue with the debate «Mental health without myths», moderated by Ana Benito Duarte. Along with José Fernando Venceslá and María Luisa Rivera will take part Eva María Sánchez Cañete, medical director of the UGC Guadalquivir; Carmen Quevedo Barbancho, social worker of the Community Mental Health Unit, and Fernando Castro Roldán, managing director of FAISEM. This variety of profiles will allow incorporating the perspectives of community care, caregiving, social work and support for social inclusion.
With this series, the organizing entities seek to bring health information and advice to the public and promote prevention. After the first session, dedicated to food and obesity last September, the programme will conclude on November 5 with «From diagnosis to personalized medicine», focused on the evolution of breast cancer, also at 19.00 hours at the Cajasol Foundation.
