The Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba has reduced its carbon footprint from 109 to 93 over the course of 2025, a year in which the monument recorded 2.7 million visitors. This is stated in the 2025 sustainability report presented by the Cabildo Catedral de Córdoba, as announced by the Diócesis. The central event of this outreach work will be on November 11, with the holding of the II International Conference «La armonía de la sostenibilidad en la Mezquita-Catedral». The meeting will bring together experts to address the responsible management of the temple.

A meeting with a hybrid format

The portal reported on November 2 that the Mezquita-Catedral is hosting that month an international conference on heritage and sustainability. According to that information, the meeting can be followed in person at the Palacio de Congresos de Córdoba and also online, with broadcast in Spanish and English, upon prior registration. The organization is by the Cabildo Catedral together with the Universidad de Córdoba, the Ayuntamiento de Córdoba and the Club de Córdoba para la UNESCO (CUCO), with the sponsorship of the Comisión Nacional Española de Cooperación con la UNESCO. The stated goal at the time was to bring together the monument's heritage community with experts and key actors in heritage management to reflect on its role as a driver of sustainability, addressing the dimensions of people, nature and economy.

The report, after a year marked by the fire

The presentation of the report comes after a 2025 in which the Mezquita-Catedral suffered a fire, on August 8, in the area of a column. The portal reported on November 4 that the Junta de Andalucía has distinguished the Cabildo Catedral in the second edition of the Premios Andalucía de la Cultura, in the category of Conservation and Restoration of Historical Heritage, for the rehabilitation work on the affected area, which concluded with the restoration of the shaft and capital of the damaged column. To attend the conferences on November 11, prior registration is required, according to the data disseminated by the organization, which enabled both in-person and online attendance.
