The Diputación de Córdoba has presented in Obejo the work being carried out by the European programme «Camino Vertical» to improve the information and services available on the Camino Mozárabe de Santiago as it passes through the province.

A renewed website and new digital services

As part of these actions, the website caminomozarabesantiago.es has been updated, incorporating multimedia content, detailed information on facilities and services, and data of municipal and heritage interest. The deputy for Finance and European Funds of the Diputación, Ana Rosa Ruz, explained that the aim of the project is to turn this route into a tourism product adapted to current needs. According to her, work is also underway on a centralised booking and check-in system, a digital traveller registry and its connection with the Ministerio del Interior.

Totems and screens along the route

Ruz noted that these digital tools will be complemented by interactive totems, information screens and QR codes at key points along the route, offering walkers cultural, gastronomic, weather and safety information in real time. The deputy stated that these actions will increase historical and cultural knowledge of the province, improve accessibility and generate opportunities for commerce, hospitality and local businesses in the rural environment. The event, held at the Hogar del Pensionista de Obejo, was also attended by the mayor of the municipality, Pedro López, and the president of the Asociación de los Amigos del Camino Mozárabe de Santiago, Joaquín Gómez.

A project with twelve partners from Spain and Portugal

«Camino Vertical» is a cross-border cooperation project co-financed at 75 % by the European Union within the Operational Programme for Cross-Border Cooperation Spain-Portugal (POCTEP 2021-2027), with a total budget of more than two and a half million euros. It focuses on the protection, development and promotion of tourism resources and heritage of the Jacobean Routes of the Iberian West, among which is the Camino Mozárabe de Córdoba. In addition to the Diputación de Córdoba, the diputaciones of Badajoz, Cáceres, Cádiz, Huelva, Zamora and Sevilla (the latter through Prodetur), the Diputación de Ourense (through Inorde) and the Junta de Extremadura are taking part on the Spanish side. On the Portuguese side, the municipality of Barcelos, Turismo do Alentejo and the Entidade Regional de Turismo de Centro de Portugal are part of the project.
