Palenciana celebrates the seventh edition of the Palenciana Fest Urban Art Festival from October 15 to 18, an event that turns the town's streets, squares and school into an open-air art gallery. The initiative is promoted by the Diputación de Córdoba, through the Fundación de Artes Plásticas Rafael Botí, and organised by the Ayuntamiento de Palenciana.
A four-day programme
The programme starts on Thursday, October 15 with the opening of the festival, the 'Tortillas con Arte' competition, a recognition of Canal Sur for its coverage of the event, activities at the school and workshops, as well as the start of the Palenciana Fest mural.
On Friday, October 16 the jury's decision for the 'Calles en Verso' contest will be announced, along with the continuation of the school mural, various artistic interventions and workshops aimed at both adults and children.
Saturday, October 17 will be given over to children's workshops and new mural interventions.
On Sunday, October 18 there will be a closing day with a craftswomen's market, music, a book presentation, a charity bar, a theatre performance in the afternoon and a guided route through the spaces linked to the festival.
Equality in the rural world
The festival coincides with the commemoration of the International Day of Rural Women and seeks to give visibility to women artists in the rural sphere. The Diputación's delegate for Tourism, Narci Ruiz, has stated that it is «an event that has become a benchmark for urban art and contemporary creation in the rural world».
The mayor of Palenciana, Gonzalo Ariza, has explained that «with this festival we turn the streets of Palenciana into an open-air museum».
