The Real Academia Española (RAE) will hold a plenary session on November 19 at the Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba dedicated especially to the figure of Luis de Góngora and the Cordoban intellectual tradition. This was announced by the director of the RAE, Santiago Muñoz Machado, during the opening of the conference "Góngora en la Real Academia Española", held on October 21 at the academy's headquarters in Madrid.

A conference on the poet's legacy

At that meeting, coordinated by the academic Aurora Egido, national and international specialists analyzed the work and legacy of the Cordoban poet. The professor of Spanish Literature at the Universidad de Córdoba (UCO) and director of the Cátedra Góngora, Joaquín Roses, took part with the lecture "¿Cómo se hereda la riqueza? Góngora y la poesía del siglo XVII", in which he analyzed the author's "radical modernity" and argued that "he was not only a model, but a challenge for the poets of his time". According to Roses, his influence demanded something more than reproducing his stylistic resources. Alongside Roses participated José María Micó, professor at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and National Translation Award winner; Nadine Ly, professor emerita at the Université Bordeaux-Montaigne and corresponding academic of the RAE, and Aurora Egido herself, professor emerita at the Universidad de Zaragoza and academic of the RAE.

Visits to an exhibition on Góngora

Coinciding with the conference, the RAE opened visits to an archival and bibliographic exhibition dedicated to Luis de Góngora, also coordinated by Aurora Egido. The exhibition, installed in the room that houses the Dámaso Alonso legacy, brings together editions of the poet's works, critical studies and documents on his literary reception over the centuries. Among the pieces on display is a facsimile of "Delicias del Parnaso" (Barcelona, 1634), the first printed selection of his work. Guided visits will continue on October 27 and 28, at 12:00 and 13:00 hours, with prior registration and until available places are filled. Information and registration are managed through the RAE page on the exhibition.

Two centenaries in 2027

The initiative is part of the commemoration of two anniversaries that will coincide in 2027: the fourth centenary of the death of the Cordoban poet and the first centenary of the generation of 27, whose members played a fundamental role in the recovery and vindication of his work. The full conference can be seen in the recording of the meeting.
