From Wednesday, October 27, the Centro Botí of the Diputación de Córdoba hosts a retrospective exhibition with 17 award-winning works from the Concurso Internacional de Cerámica y Alfarería de La Rambla, which this year marks its centenary. The exhibition can be visited until November 22.
What can be seen
The pieces gathered have won awards in the three categories of the competition: traditional bisque pottery, traditional ceramics and design and new forms in ceramics. All of them were previously exhibited at the Museo de Cerámica de La Rambla and the exhibition is travelling: it has been to the Salón de la Pedra de Argentona, the Casa de Córdoba in Madrid and the Feria de Arsolea in Castro del Río, and at the end of November it will travel to the Centro de la Cerámica de Triana, in Sevilla.
In addition to the award-winning works, in the courtyard of the centre there are pieces from the Escuela Dionisio Ortiz and the exhibition «Flor es», installed on the first floor, which brings together ceramics, live flowers and contemporary art. Aniana Heras, Carlos J. Cenamor, Noemi Iglesias Barrios, Olivia Barros Mariño, Yukiko Kitahara and Ramón Luque take part in it. Aniana Heras is the winner in the category of Nuevas formas y Cerámica contemporánea 2026.
One hundred years of the competition
The president of the Asociación de Alfarero y Artes de La Rambla, Álvaro Montaño, explains that the event commemorates the first pottery and ceramics exhibition in the municipality, held in 1926, and describes it as «the oldest monographic exhibition in Spain». Originally the competition only had the Blanco or Bizcocho category; in the 1980s the categories of Cerámica vidriada, pieza mayor decorada and Nuevas Formas y Cerámica Contemporánea were added.
The mayor of La Rambla, Jorge Fernández, notes that in 1926 it began with pieces such as botijos or jugs and that the competition today maintains three categories: bisque, traditional ceramics with hand decoration and new forms. The delegate of Culture of the Diputación and president of the Fundación Provincial de Artes Plásticas Rafael Botí, Gabriel Duque, indicates that the exhibition is organised together with the Ayuntamiento de La Rambla and highlights the role of women in the craft, linked to carrying, embroidery or manguilla and glazing.
