Villa del Río bids farewell to the 25th anniversary of Blas Moyano with its Gold Medal

The municipal cemetery hosts the posthumous presentation of the distinction to the painter on the day marking 25 years since his death.

The painter Blas Moyano Rosauro now has the Gold Medal of Villa del Río. The distinction was awarded posthumously on Sunday, November 1, 2026, in the Municipal Cemetery «Virgen de la Estrella», at the place where his remains rest and just when 25 years had passed since his death, which occurred on November 1, 2001. The event, held at 11:00, brought together family members, friends, neighbours, painters, sculptors and representatives of the cultural sphere of the town. The ceremony was presided over by the mayor of Villa del Río and head of the Culture area, Jesús Morales Molina, accompanied by the second deputy mayor, Almudena Mantilla Pérez, and members of the Municipal Corporation.

During the tribute, Francisco Laguna Menor and Francisca Pérez Fernández spoke, dedicating a few words to the memory of the artist and his wife, Esperanza. The ceremony featured music from the Trío de Capilla of the Banda de Música Puente Romano de Villa del Río. The most emotional moment came with the floral offering at the grave, where family members, institutional representatives and attendees laid white carnations. Morales Molina stressed that the award responds to the wish to settle a historic debt of the municipality with one of its most beloved artists and recalled that numerous neighbours, artists and people linked to culture had expressed the request over the years. The mayor reaffirmed the City Council's commitment to the conservation and dissemination of painting from Villa del Río and to bringing Moyano's work closer to new generations, according to the Consistorio. The Gold Medal will be permanently displayed in the room dedicated to Blas Moyano. The tribute is part of the programme organised by the Culture area for the 25th anniversary, which includes lectures, children's workshops and educational proposals, as well as the exhibition dedicated to the artist at the beginning of 2026, curated by Paco Laguna.

The programme continues with the group exhibition «Villa del Río recuerda a Blas Moyano. 25 años de legado y memoria», which opened on Sunday, November 1 at 20:30 at the Museo Histórico Municipal «Casa de las Cadenas». It can be visited until November 29, 2026.
