The Mozarabic Way of Saint James as it passes through the province of Córdoba has new resources for those who travel it. According to the Córdoba Provincial Council, the institution has analyzed in a session the competitiveness of this route as a tourism product, sustainable and safe, within the European project "Camino Vertical".
What has been launched
Among the actions reviewed is the website caminomozarabesantiago.es, which brings together multimedia content with details of facilities and services, municipal information of interest and local heritage. In addition, there are interactive totems, information screens and QR codes installed at emblematic points, which offer the walker cultural, gastronomic, climatological and safety information in real time.
A network shared with Portugal
The delegate of Finance and European Funds of the Provincial Council, Ana Rosa Ruz, has explained that the objective of this cross-border project, co-financed by the European Union within the framework of the Interreg Spain-Portugal program (POCTEP 2021-2027), is "to improve the competitiveness of the Jacobean Ways of the Iberian West as a sustainable, intelligent, innovative and inclusive tourism product".
Ruz has pointed out that "Camino Vertical" groups Jacobean ways "perhaps less known, but which preserve an important historical and heritage value" and which are part of a network of itineraries shared between territories of Spain and Portugal, such as the Mozarabic Way. The delegate has added that the initiative also seeks to involve the local population and strengthen the feeling of belonging to that network.
Twelve partners in the project
The Córdoba Provincial Council is one of the twelve partners participating in "Camino Vertical". Along with it are the provincial councils of Badajoz, Cáceres, Cádiz, Huelva, Zamora, Ourense through Inorde and Seville with Prodetur, as well as the Junta de Extremadura on the Spanish side. From Portugal, the municipality of Barcelos, Turismo do Alentejo and the Entidade Regional de Turismo de Centro de Portugal are part of it.
