Update 19:06

The virtual exhibition is now available: it opens this same Friday, October 23, not Saturday the 24 as the previous information indicated, and can be visited for free through the ArtPlacer platform at the link shared by the Cátedra. The exhibition digitally brings together works, documents and illustrations from the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia, the Biblioteca Digital memoriademadrid and private collections, with special attention to the illustrations Ferrer made for publications edited during the Civil War. The curator is Paula Revenga Domínguez, with Pablo Prieto Hames and Noemí Rubio Pozuelo as assistant curators.
The figure of Horacio Ferrer de Morgado (Córdoba, 1894-Madrid, 1978) is back in the news in his city. The Cátedra Córdoba, Ciudad Mundo of the University of Córdoba (UCO), with the sponsorship of the Ayuntamiento, closes this Friday, October 23, the conference series it has dedicated to the painter within the fourth edition of the cycle «Córdoba en la Historia. Cordobeses Ilustres», under the title Un pintor entre el compromiso y la vanguardia.

A virtual exhibition from October 24

The main attraction for those unable to attend the lectures arrives the following day. The permanent virtual exhibition Realismo social y compromiso: la producción artística de Horacio Ferrer will be presented during the conference series and will be accessible to the public from Saturday, October 24, on the Cátedra's website. The exhibition incorporates augmented reality, a technological leap compared with previous editions of the cycle.

An artist alongside Guernica

Ferrer de Morgado is the author of Aviones negros, a work that was exhibited alongside Picasso's Guernica in the Spanish Republic Pavilion at the 1937 Paris International Exposition and which is now held at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. Despite this, according to the UCO, he remains largely unknown to the public. Trained in Córdoba under Mateo Inurria and Julio Romero de Torres, he furthered his studies in Madrid, Paris and Italy. His commitment to the Republic shaped his career after the Civil War, when he directed much of his activity towards decoration, religious commissions and heritage restoration.

Specialists and family

The sessions, held in the Aula Magna of the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras (Plaza del Cardenal Salazar, 3) from 16.30 to 20.30 hours, bring together specialists from the UCO, the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the Universidad de Sevilla and the Museo Reina Sofía. Daniel and Horacio Ferrer, grandsons of the artist, are expected to attend. The programme includes an approach to the documentary Horacio Ferrer de Morgado. Más allá de las miradas, produced in 2025 by Adarve Producciones for the Museo de Bellas Artes de València, presented by Pablo Prieto Hames, of the Universidad de Sevilla, in the session on October 23.
