The Batalla de las Flores hopes to obtain the declaration of Tourist Interest. This was conveyed by the territorial delegate for Tourism, Justice, Deregulation and Local Administration of the Junta de Andalucía in Córdoba, Alejandro Hernández, to the representatives of the Federación de Peñas Cordobesas with whom he met to move forward on that goal.

A festival that opens the May Festival

According to the Junta, the recognition would help to highlight a tradition that opens Córdoba's May Festival and that attracts thousands of visitors to the city every year. The Batalla de las Flores has been held since 1988, organised by the Federación de Peñas Cordobesas, and is part of the festive calendar alongside the Cruces de Mayo, the Patios and the Feria de Nuestra Señora de la Salud. Hernández has stated that the event "brings together creativity, heritage, citizen participation and a unique image of our city" and has said that the Junta will support the federation so that the initiative moves forward. The delegate also highlighted the role of the Federación de Peñas Cordobesas in preserving and promoting the celebration.

The backing of the Regional Ministry

The Regional Ministry of Tourism values, in Hernández's words, the work of the federation because "its work has a very important tourist impact for the city and for the whole province". The delegate added that the recognition can help consolidate Córdoba as a destination that lives its traditions throughout the year. The territorial official has indicated that the Andalusian administration wants to accompany the peñas in this project and has linked the protection of the festivities with employment, commerce, hospitality and the economy tied to tourism.
