Lucena accounts for 75% of national cold-chain production for the Horeca sector and has around 3,400 companies, a ratio of 83 per 1,000 inhabitants. This was stated by the Regional Minister for Employment, Business and Self-Employment, Rocío Blanco, during the opening of the III Ciudad de Lucena Business Meeting. Blanco highlighted that the town has developed a diversified productive fabric specialised in sectors such as industrial refrigeration, wood, agribusiness, services and construction, and placed it among the main hubs of Andalusia.

The province adds companies and workers

The minister framed this dynamism within the industrial transformation process of the province of Córdoba, with new investments linked to electrification, the energy transition and the defence industry. As she detailed, the province had around 62,000 active companies in 2025, 2% more than the previous year, after adding more than 1,500 new ones. This growth is also reflected in the labour market, with 314,000 employed in the third quarter of 2026, 5% more year-on-year. She also stressed that Córdoba led the fall in unemployment in Andalusia in October, with 583 fewer unemployed.

Training for the auxiliary industry

One of the objectives of her department during this legislative term is to place companies and self-employed workers at the centre of its actions, helping them to face two challenges: gaining scale and having professionals with the necessary qualifications. In this area she cited as an example the work of the Escuela de la Madera of the Servicio Andaluz de Empleo (SAE) and the singular training projects linked to the future Base Logística del Ejército de Tierra, to meet the demands of the auxiliary industry.
