The note adds that the celebration also has the backing of the Cabildo Catedral, which joins the diocesan call and makes an explicit appeal to institutions and to the public in general, not only to the faithful, to gather in the temple. Likewise, the call explicitly includes prayer for the speedy recovery of the injured, an aspect that did not appear in the published information.
The Holy Cathedral Church of Córdoba will host on Friday, November 13, at 18:00 hours, a funeral mass in suffrage for the victims of the railway accident that occurred in Urda (Toledo). The celebration will be presided over by the bishop of Córdoba, Monsignor Jesús Fernández González, who has called on the entire diocesan community to participate. The call invites the faithful to join in prayer for the eternal rest of the people who died in the disaster and to spiritually accompany their family members and loved ones, as detailed by the Diocese of Córdoba.

A recent precedent in the diocese

It is not the first time that the Córdoba diocese has celebrated a mass for the victims of a railway accident. On January 18, 2026, an Iryo train covering the route between Málaga and Madrid derailed in the municipality of Adamuz, in the province of Córdoba, and entered the adjacent track, where it collided with a Renfe Alvia traveling in the opposite direction bound for Huelva. The disaster caused 46 fatalities, according to data collected by Wikipedia. It was the first collision between two trains on the Spanish high-speed network and the third most serious railway accident in Spain in the 21st century, after the one in Angrois in July 2013 and the one in Urda, which occurred just nine months later, in October of that same year. The appointment on November 13 is open to the entire diocesan community and does not require prior registration: it is enough to go to the Cathedral at 18:00 hours.
