The Patio de los Naranjos of the Mezquita-Catedral once again becomes a venue for the FLORA 2026 festival. This edition hosts 'HALCYON', a contemporary floral art installation by artist PARKSOHEE that intervenes in the historic Fuente de Santa María.

A waterfall that does not disappear

The work starts from a fleeting instant: the moment when water emerges from the fountain. Instead of letting that movement disperse, it turns it into a botanical landscape that extends beyond the basin. To this end, a large organic form has been arranged that imitates water as it rises, curves and falls in a cascade through the fountain itself. As the Cabildo Catedral explains, the artist moves away from the idea of disappearance to focus on the complete cycle of nature. Roots, dry branches, leaves and flowers coexist in the installation, so that blooming, wilting, life and transience appear as parts of the same process of growth, decay and renewal.

Materials from the surroundings

The piece uses a wide variety of botanical elements: palm inflorescences, moss, dry tree roots, curly willow, dried pumpkins, corn leaves and live plants such as colocasia or leucospermum. Naturally abandoned wasp nests are also included, along with animal tail applied to create translucent drops that simulate resin on the materials. To integrate the work into the monumental setting, silver acrylic sheets with a mirror effect have been added, cut on site in irregular shapes. These pieces generate fragmented reflections of the water, the plants, the light and the architecture of the courtyard.

A festival venue

The installation is part of FLORA 2026, an event that once again turns the Patio de los Naranjos into one of its main venues, as indicated by the Cabildo Catedral, which promotes the hosting of the work in the enclosure.
