The Cofradía de Nuestra Señora de la Estrella Coronada de Villa del Río has brought an end to the events of its 450th anniversary with a day of veneration, rosary and procession that culminated in a Eucharist presided over by the bishop of Córdoba, Jesús Fernández.

The image of Nuestra Señora de la Estrella Coronada has returned to its sanctuary after a day that closed the events of the 450th anniversary of the brotherhood. The celebration began in the morning with the veneration of the image at the parish of la Inmaculada Concepción de Villa del Río, where the faithful were able to approach the carving. During the veneration the Angelus was prayed and, afterwards, the Holy Rosary.

Procession and mass in the Plaza de la Constitución

In the afternoon, the image set out in procession from the parish to the Plaza de la Constitución, where the mass was celebrated. The Eucharist was presided over by the bishop of Córdoba, Jesús Fernández. At the end of the ceremony, the image went up to the sanctuary, which brought the day to a close. In the homily, the bishop stressed the importance of baptism as the gateway to participating in the banquet of the Kingdom of God and added that being baptized or an external religious practice is not enough: «conversion of the heart to Jesus Christ is needed,» he specified.

A devotion of 450 years

The brotherhood traces its founding back to the year 1576, so these events commemorate four and a half centuries of devotion to the Virgen de la Estrella in the town. The day has also served as a remembrance of the generations of members who have kept that devotion alive. The celebration of this Saturday, October 10 brings the anniversary events to a close, which had their central day with the veneration, the rosary, the religious service and the raising of the image to the sanctuary.
