The VII Tourism Forum of the Unión Nacional de Agencias de Viajes (UNAV) is held this Thursday in Lucena with a professional session aimed at travel agencies and companies linked to the tourism sector, focused on the challenges and opportunities of inland destinations. The meeting brings together representatives of travel agencies, destinations and transport, technology and tourism services companies.

A tour of the heritage

The forum began on Wednesday with the reception of the hundred participants at the Palacio de los Condes de Santa Ana, from where a guided tour began through the main heritage resources of the historic centre, such as the baroque palace itself, the Castillo del Moral, the church of San Mateo and the Casa de los Mora, which this Thursday hosts the professional session. Under the slogan «Turismo patrimonial de interior. Lucena, el destino como experiencia», the sessions address the transformation of heritage resources into tourism products, marketing channels and new traveller habits, with the aim of drawing up proposals to help improve the competitiveness of inland destinations.

Institutional speeches

The opening was attended by Aurelio Fernández, mayor of Lucena; Francisco Barbancho, councillor for Tourism; Narcisa Ruiz, tourism delegate of the Diputación de Córdoba; Alejandro Hernández, territorial delegate for Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía in Córdoba; and César Gutiérrez, president of UNAV. The mayor thanked the choice of Lucena as the venue and noted that the meeting serves to «make the city known among professionals who work directly in the marketing of tourist destinations» and to show its heritage, its accessibility and the services of a medium-sized city. Gutiérrez, for his part, highlighted the potential of Lucena as a destination to be discovered and the importance of inland tourism for diversifying visitor flows, and valued «the well-preserved heritage, the activity and life in the streets and the appeal of the gastronomy, with olive oil as the main reference».
